Oil spills originate from a variety of sources, such as accidents at oil exploration rigs, ocean traffic, cleaning ship ballasts, and transport of oil between oil tankers and distribution bases.
Analytical Solutions uses advanced, high-technology analytical processes to identify and characterize the type and origin of an oil spill, such as:
• Biomarker analysis using GC-MS-MS
• Carbon isotope analysis (δ13C)
• Whole oil gas chromotography
• Whole oil gas chromatography and mass spectrometry for identification of aromatic and saturated compounds
These analyses enable us to differentiate crude oil from a refined product.
In the case of crude oil spills, both the origin of the oil and the time of permanence in the environment where it was spilled can be determined.
